Summer Solstice June 21, 2025

Remember when Joanne Wehrli on Laugh In talked about the Fickle Finger of Fate?  I always think of that when I see a Finger of God (Yod) aspect in a chart.  On the Summer Solstice, two Finger of God configurations are in the sky.  As it is the Solstice, where the planets are now present a picture of human experience until the Winter Solstice.

I say Fickle Finger, because planets are not good or bad - except as we make them so in our experience. A lot of bad or difficult things are happening now for many of us, but is is truly bad? or is the fickle finger of fate educating us and guiding us through a process?  I don’t know, of course, but it is food for thought and discussion.

(Fockle) Finger of God #1 involves Mars in Virgo (God of War in mythology) opposite Pluto in Aquarius (The God of the underworld) and Titans Saturn and Neptune (Industrious Builder and Dreamer)  both fused, both in the sign Aries. (Aries is ruled by the planet Mars which underscores Mars’ important role in this aspect.  Pluto and Mars are pretty explosive in this configuration and signify power struggles, the desire to dominate.  With Pluto involved, the outcome of the current wars have the potential to reshape society.  With Saturn and Neptune in Aries sextiling, building that Plutonian energy, it can truly be the beginning of something that is completely new and unknown.

(Fickle) Finger of God #2 again involves Pluto, this time at the apex of the configuration, is in a tense configuration with the Sun (Executive leadership) and Jupiter (Expansion, Ruling Powers) in Cancer (a desire for safety and nurturing). The Sun/Jupiter is sextile (building) the energy of Mars in Virgo.  Mars demands a resolution of its relationship with Pluto in Aquarius.  The power struggle between Pluto and Mars resurfaces, but the Executive Branch, in this case, sees force and domination as necessary to the establishment of power.

One possible scenario is that the Executive could use a need for security as a reason to unleash military force in an attempt to dominate another country.  Another reason is that one power seeks geographical expansion as a necessary key to its security.  (Well, duh, that probably sums up all war rationales!)

Personally, as well as collectively, the question of power struggles will be particularly acute for those with planets at the very end of a sign or the very beginning of a sign.  It affects every sign in those degrees - beginnings and endings.  We are being asked to release what has not served us well, collectively or personally, and develop a new vision - or find our need for growth and expansion stymied.

This year continues its unprecedented departure from the “norms” we have accepted.  Something new is emerging.  Fascism, is one option, but far from the only one.  We are truly breaking down in order to break through, I hope.  If we go through this year trying to keep  everything as it has been, we will miss the benefits of this time of often frightening chaos.  Remember that there is a lot of creativity during times of chaos and be open to radical changes as they happen.
