Monday, May 26, 2025, is the Gemini New Moon. Gemini is a planet of how we communicate - speaking, writing and listening. Didn’t Genesis say the world was spoken into being through The Word? As we experience the New Moon, conjunct Gemini's Ruling planet Mercury, I am reading Viktor Frankl’s book “in Search of Meaning. Frankl is a psychiatrist who lived to tell (Mercury) about life in German concentration camps. He is also the father of logo-therapy (Word Therapy), a school of psychotherapy that describes a search for a life's meaning as the central human motivational force. A nice synchronicity. What we say is important. What we think is important. This New Moon highlights that.
The Sun and Moon are in the same degree at a New Moon, beginning a new lunar cycle for the month. It is a “seed” time when new beginnings are favored. (For the next two weeks, gardeners, take advantage of the up rush of energy to plant above ground, summer-loving plants. Consult the Farmers Almanac for favorable days.).
The ruler of Gemini is Mercury, and as befits a Gemini moon, the pace may get more frenetic (if possible) as Gemini loves variety and hates thoughtless routine. Mercury is, well, mercurial. Don’t count on consistency as much as on wonder and curiosity.
Heavy outer planets like Saturn, Neptune, Uranus and Pluto are interacting with the New Moon and Mercury, making the impact of the collective become very personal as well as societal. Saturn = limits, loss; Neptune = releasing, merging, Uranus = futuristic, independent, nonconformist and Pluto = transformation through facing our deepest fears. Combine that with the New Moon’s desire to connect, be heard and to listen intently. Play with those keywords - are our words and thoughts grounded in reality? Is our vision acknowledging the need to release the world we wanted, to find the world coming into existence?
Aries calls us to act despite our fear, to have the courage to begin. Saturn and Neptune are in Aries for the summer. It will briefly go back into Pisces in the fall, then come back out swinging to conjunct at 0 Aries on February 26, 2026. So watch what happens this summer. It is a preview of the future.
Saturn can bring clarity and realism, while Neptune keeps an eye out for the interface between our world and the cosmos beyond. I think of Saturn as the perspiration it takes to build a structure and Neptune as the inspiration for doing it. Uranus won’t reach Gemini until July, but it is close enough to the New Moon/Mercury to make an impact. Keep your ears peeled. We may be getting another firehose of information, and things like Uranian AI may be part of the message.
We have not had so many outer planets change signs for eons, so this period is a huge opportunity to create something entirely new. I believe our institutions and structures are being demolished because incremental change just wasn’t moving quickly enough. We may have to break down completely to break through into new forms that are truly revolutionary.
The New Moon//Mercury is working easily with Pluto in Aquarius - energy to revolutionize and transform. The myth of the Phoenix arising from the ashes is a Plutonian myth. We do seem to be getting to the ashes stage rather quickly! If you were born within three days of the end of a sign or during the first eight days of any sign, you are probably experiencing this chaos and restlessness very personally.
I tell myself that opportunity arises from chaos. The old feudal structures withered during the bubonic plague. The Renaissance was a result. Our Renaissance may be far off; but it is possible.
Albert Einstein said “Everything is impossible until it isn’t.” What looks impossible now may be impossible until it is not. Fingers crossed.
